Researchers in our lab published a new study showing that telehealth-based weight loss interventions produce similar weight loss outcomes to those delivered in person! Congratulations to HPL graduate student Brittney Dixon, who just successfully defended her dissertation, entitled "The Association Between the Built Environment and Intervention-Related Weight Loss Outcomes for Rural Adults with Obesity."

Welcome, Dr. Chelsea Larsen!

We are excited to announce that Dr. Chelsea Larson has joined the Health Promotion Lab as a Postdoctoral Associate! Dr. Larsen received her Bachelors of Education from the University of Tennessee Knoxville and both her MPH and PhD from the University of South Carolina. Her research centers on the utilization of technology for the dissemination of evidence-based behavior change interventions and how different technologies, specifically wearable devices, smartphones, and online networking platforms, can be used to prevent and treat chronic disease. In particular, she is interested in technology-based interventions focused on physical activity promotion and sedentary behavior reduction. Outside of work, Chelsea enjoys eating good food, cuddling with her cats and traveling to as many places as possible.

Brittney Dixon and Abe Eastman win Meritorious Student Abstract Awards from the Society of Behavioral Medicine

HPL Ph.D. students Brittney Dixon, M.P.H., and Abe Eastman, M.A. M.S., both earned Meritorious Student Abstract Awards at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society of Behavioral Medicine (previously scheduled for April 1-4, 2020, in San Francisco, CA. While the conference itself was cancelled due to COVID19, both abstracts have been published in theĀ Annals of Behavioral Medicine:

Congratulations to Umelo Ugwoaba, M.S.!

Congratulations to HPL graduate student Umelo Ugwoaba for graduating with his masters degree in psychology! Umelo's masters thesis, which he defended earlier this spring, was entitled "Association between Hunger, Temptation, and Making Eating Choices Consistent with Weight Loss." We are excited to continue to work with Umelo as he advances through his PhD studies!

Andrea Brockmann, M.S. wins the “Top Student Abstract Award” from the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s Obesity and Eating Disorders Special Interest Group

At the 2019 annual meeting of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, Andrea Brockmann, M.S., a first-year Ph.D. student in the Health Promotion Lab, was awarded the "Top Student Abstract Award" by the Obesity and Eating Disorders Special Interest Group. Andrea presented this abstract, entitled "Is it really a two-way street? Bidirectional association between exercise and stress in adults with overweight and obesity" as an oral presentation at this meeting.
